Shoulder Impingement

Shoulder Impingement

Shoulder impingement, or impingement syndrome, occurs when the tendon/s of the muscles that make up the rotator cuff get pinched when the shoulder joint is moved. The acromion process, a part of the shoulder blade, is commonly the structure that pinches these tendons. The result is injury and inflammation of the rotator cuff muscles, which leads to pain in the shoulder area.

Common symptoms of shoulder impingement are pain with movement of the arm when it reaches shoulder height, pain when lying on the affected shoulder, weakness, and decreased range of motion in the shoulder.

The Chiropractors at Mountainview Chiropractic Center will assess the shoulder joint as well as the surrounding structures to determine the appropriate treatment protocol for the patient.

The practitioners treat shoulder impingement by:

  • Chiropractic adjustments to restore normal joint motion
  • Myofascial release to release adhesions in damaged tissue and take stress off the shoulder joint
  • Rehabilitation exercises to strengthen the muscles that provide stability to the shoulder joint

We have a history of treating patients with certain shoulder impingement injuries very effectively!
