Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis

The plantar fascia is a piece of connective tissue that spans from your heel to your toes, providing your foot with stability and support. When this tissue becomes overworked, it can begin to degenerate, resulting in pain in the bottom of the foot. Plantar fasciitis can be caused by many things, some of which are still being debated to this day. Having flat feet, high arched feet, over-pronation of the foot, being overweight, putting the foot under repetitive stress, and having poor-fitting shoes can be considered some of the causes of developing plantar fasciitis.

Symptoms

Common symptoms of plantar fasciitis are sharp pain located near the heel, pain in the foot after long periods of rest, and swelling located around the heel.

The Chiropractors at Mountainview Chiropractic Center will assess the foot as well as the surrounding structures to determine the appropriate treatment protocol for the patient.

The practitioners treat plantar fasciitis by:

  • Chiropractic adjustments to restore normal joint motion
  • Myofascial release to release adhesions in damaged tissue and take stress off the injury
  • Rehabilitation exercises to provide mobility to the foot
  • Discussing the possibility of custom-fit orthotics
